December 2025: CIRÉE is proud to complete its collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Quebec in the modeling and forecasting of students with disabilities or learning difficulties. CIRÉE leveraged its expertise in micro- and macro-econometric modeling to support the Ministry’s economists in their work.

November 2025: CIRÉE has completed the first version of its study on the impact of multi-grade classrooms on student academic performance in Canada. The results indicate that multi-grade classrooms have a negative effect on the academic success of third-grade students in Ontario. Furthermore, the magnitude of this effect increases with the number of third-grade students who share their learning experience with students from adjacent grade levels. In a context where multi-grade classrooms are often presented as beneficial for academic achievement in the country, this study offers a nuanced perspective on these perceptions.

March 21, 2025 : Two studies are currently underway at the CIREE. The first examines the impact of mixed-grade teaching, which groups students from different primary school levels into the same class, on their academic achievement. The second assesses the budgetary efficiency of Ontario school boards using Data Envelopment Analyis (DEA) and Stochastic Frontier methods.

May 13, 2024 : CIREE has completed its study on the efficiency of school transportation in Quebec for the Quebec Ministry of Education.

Grade repetition in Quebec : To be used sparingly. A recent study (french only) shows that grade repetition negatively impacts the academic success of the majority of students.

A 2018 study (french only) shows the Passe-Partout program in Quebec is highly effective in supporting the development of young children.
